Executive Chef Matt Pennell’s interest in cooking began in his hometown of Holyrood, Newfoundland. Shortly after graduating high school, Matt began his journey into the culinary world at the Culinary Institute of Canada on Prince Edward Island. From there, Matt found success throughout North America. Matt worked a few years in Banff, then did a seven-year stint in Halifax working at well-known restaurants, including Gio and The Press Gang. After a year working at a Michelin-starred restaurant in San Francisco, he returned to New Brunswick as one of the founding members of the Tide and Boar Gastropub in Moncton.
Matt continues to research new techniques and study the work of other top chefs to learn and develop new ideas. In addition to Chef Matt’s professional culinary experience, he has also been awarded a number of top culinary awards. Some of which include, Chopped Canada Champion and Regional Gold Medal Winner for the Canadian Culinary Championships.
Matt is currently the Executive Chef / Food and Beverage Manager for Legends Catering and Event Venue, as well as the Moncton Coliseum.
